Between the Dilemma of the Supreme Leader and the Power of the Alternative: No Negotiation, No War, But the Fall of the Regime

Decisive and strategic decisions within the Iranian regime cannot be made without the approval of the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. This fact has become an undeniable truth for the entire world, and no one can deny it. This means that the current situation in Iran is the result and outcome of Khamenei’s decisions and stances. He has led the Iranian people to an extremely negative state.
When a person sees that their decisions are failed and incorrect, and this repeats, they become cautious in issuing new decisions and tend to reflect carefully to avoid negative consequences and repercussions. However, Khamenei, who has held the reins of power for over four decades and has seen firsthand the failure and incorrectness of his decisive decisions in various fields, has not learned from the results and impacts of those decisions, which negatively reflected on Iran’s situation. Instead, he insists on adhering to this approach, regardless of the negative outcomes. Worst of all, the Friday preachers, whom Khamenei personally selects, justify the negative results of these poor decisions as divine tests!
While the world observes how Iran’s situation has reached a highly dangerous turning point due to Khamenei’s obstinate decisions and stances, putting Iran and its people at severe risk, Khamenei, instead of seeking to calm the situation and avoid exposing the country to threats that negatively impact the Iranian people, seeks to fuel the flames. This was clearly evident in his latest speech on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025.
In this recorded speech, contrary to the international community’s stance on uranium enrichment, Khamenei emphasized that Iran would not “succumb to Western pressures” to abandon uranium enrichment. He stated: “The American side says: You must not enrich at all,” adding: “We will never succumb to pressures on uranium enrichment, nor on any other issue. We will never succumb to pressures,” implying that he is once again leading the situation towards escalation and confrontation.
Khamenei also repeated his long-standing position that the official regime does not need nuclear weapons and does not intend to produce them, despite facts that disprove and contradict his words. Notably, we recall Ali Mottahari, the former deputy speaker of Parliament, who in April 2022 admitted: “When we started nuclear activities, our actual goal was to produce a bomb. No need for false modesty. But it was uncovered… Mojahideen-e-Khalq reported it, and the project was exposed. We could not keep it secret. If we had conducted the test, it would have ended like Pakistan’s case.” Similarly, Hassan Rouhani, the former president and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, wrote in his book *National Security and Nuclear Diplomacy*: “In 2002, activities were progressing quietly, but suddenly Mojahideen-e-Khalq held a press conference and created a major uproar. The Atomic Energy Organization’s plan was to complete the Natanz facility and then inform the IAEA, after facing an unavoidable reality.”
Undoubtedly, Khamenei’s insistence on these decisions will neither benefit the regime nor change its fate, especially as the Iranian people have faced the worst conditions and suffered greatly due to Khamenei’s misguided and hostile stances against their interests and the country’s. Today, they are facing a severe crisis, having reached the end of the road due to his decisions, and must await their repercussions.
Meanwhile, Khamenei’s stubborn refusal to “succumb to pressures,” which has pushed the regime into a deeper nuclear and economic crisis, was met with a firm and external response through large protests by Iranians on September 23rd and 24th in New York. These demonstrations explicitly warned the world against confusing the representative of the ruling dictatorship (Masoud Beshkian) with “the voice calling for justice for the real Iran,” and against selling the right to national resistance in exchange for silence and bargaining with the mullahs.
Ms. Maryam Rajavi reaffirmed that the only solution is “regime overthrow and democratic change,” establishing a democratic republic based on her ten-point program. This organized resistance, which has endured for decades as noted by General Walters, now loudly proclaims on the global stage that the time has come to recognize the Iranian people's struggle for regime change. Therefore, in the midst of this crisis, with the Supreme Leader persisting in his failed policies, the only force capable of removing the regime from this predicament is neither negotiation nor war. It is the organized power of the people and the democratic alternative that will shape Iran’s future.
