Goodbye, Samar Abdul Aziz: At the Age of 52
سمر عبد العزيز

The Artists’ Syndicate in Syria mourned the passing of artist and singer Samar Abdul Aziz, who died at the age of 52 after a prolonged struggle with health issues.

The Syndicate announced in a brief statement on its official page that the dates for the funeral, burial, and condolences would be announced later.

The late artist spent her final days in the hospital due to liver inflammation caused by severe immune deficiency, following her battle with cancer, which was diagnosed in 2021. Samar Abdul Aziz belonged to a distinguished artistic family; she was the daughter of lyricist Nazmi Abdul Aziz, the sister of artist Laura Abdul Aziz, and the niece of the well-known composer Azmi Mura.

Throughout her artistic career, Samar presented many popular songs, such as: "Yas'idu li hal-masaa," "Ta'alamna," "Bi Hayatina la taz'aloo," "Ya Wolf Sabrak 'Aleh," and "Zahret al-Amani."

She also participated in several dramatic series, including: "Bab Al-Hara," "Anshoudat Al-Matar," "Al-Thuraya," "Rozna," and "Seerat Al-Jalali Family," with her last appearance being in the series "Layali Roxy," which aired during the last Ramadan season.

Abdul Aziz's personal life witnessed a painful ordeal in 2021 after her divorce from director Mohammad Marouf just 12 days after their marriage. Following this emotional shock, she was diagnosed with cancer, underwent surgery to remove one of her breasts, and received chemotherapy until she was declared cured in 2023.
