The Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jim Risch, expressed his position on the bloody events in the Syrian coast, calling on the transitional authorities to impose control over the use of force.

Risch tweeted through his official account on the "X" platform saying: "Attacks on unarmed Christian and Alawite civilians in northwestern Syria are deplorable - they remind us of the need for the United States to exercise caution in dealing with the Syrian file," pointing to the importance of a balanced approach to Syrian developments.

The statement added: "Interim government authorities must exercise control over the use of force - armed groups outside government control pose a threat to the region and to Americans," in a reference that emphasizes the importance of building strong security institutions capable of imposing stability.

The American Senator's statements come in the context of the bloody events that the Syrian coast recently witnessed, which claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians, most of them from the Alawite sect, in attacks described by human rights organizations as sectarian in nature.

Risch's comments coincided with European and UN statements calling for transparent investigations into coastal violations and bringing those responsible to justice, as well as demanding enhanced protection for religious and ethnic minorities in Syria.

The American position confirms the importance of security stability as a basic condition for the success of the transitional phase, and the necessity of building inclusive institutions that reflect Syrian diversity and protect the rights of all citizens regardless of their affiliations.

The Senator's call for caution in dealing with the Syrian file indicates the need for a careful approach to political transition, ensuring that past mistakes are not repeated and protecting civilians from various religious and ethnic backgrounds from the repercussions of violence and revenge.
