Gaza Under the Weight of a Humanitarian Catastrophe: The Iranian Regime’s Role in Prolonging the Tragedy
محمد الزعبي

Gaza is facing a suffocating humanitarian crisis, with growing risks of widespread famine affecting over two million people. This alarming situation has been highlighted by more than 100 high-level international aid organizations. As the suffering of the besieged population deepens, essential food and medicine supplies remain blocked by political and logistical barriers, all under the weight of an intensified economic and humanitarian siege that has stripped Gaza's residents of their basic right to a dignified life.

Austerity and Humanitarian Collapse

The people of Gaza are enduring extreme deprivation. Each day they await humanitarian aid that barely arrives due to the severe restriction of relief operations. The crisis is worsened by strict limitations on the entry of essential goods, leaving thousands of families on the brink of death by hunger and poverty. Humanitarian organizations have warned of escalating hunger and disease, especially among children, who face increasing risks of malnutrition and related fatalities.

The Iranian Regime’s Pivotal Role in Escalating the Crisis

The catastrophic conditions in Gaza cannot be separated from the destabilizing policies of the Iranian regime, which fuels conflict throughout the Middle East by backing militias and factions that perpetuate violence and deepen the suffering of local populations. Through its funding and orchestration of proxy wars, Iran continues to ignite ongoing crises, pushing people—particularly Palestinians—into unprecedented hardship. Instead of supporting humanitarian solutions and aligning with efforts to ease suffering, the regime in Tehran exploits these crises to sow discord and division. This obstructs any effort to rebuild Gaza’s economy or open developmental pathways, directly contributing to the continuation of the blockade and trapping the population in a cycle of poverty and disease.

Humanitarian Disasters and Innocent Victims

In the current conditions, Gaza is witnessing a sharp increase in deaths due to hunger and malnutrition. Reports indicate that dozens have died in a short time due to the lack of access to vital medical care. Hospitals in the Strip are already suffering from severe shortages in medicine and equipment, compounded by the unbearable conditions endured by the residents. These institutions are effectively paralyzed in the face of this escalating humanitarian disaster—one that would not have reached this magnitude if not for the continued obstruction of humanitarian aid and the systematic disruption of relief efforts.

Urgent International Calls to Reopen Crossings and Alleviate Suffering

Humanitarian organizations have called for the immediate reopening of all border crossings and the establishment of internationally monitored humanitarian corridors to allow for effective and rapid intervention. Ending the use of starvation as a weapon of war is a core demand to alleviate civilian suffering and to uphold basic human rights. The visible tragedy in Gaza demands concrete solutions and immediate action to prevent further catastrophe and restore hope for a population trapped in endless crisis.

Conclusion: Confronting the Source of the Crisis and Supporting Sustainable Solutions

Saving Gaza from this catastrophe requires a comprehensive vision that directly addresses the role of the Iranian regime as a key actor in fueling regional conflicts through its political and military interventions. Future humanitarian and developmental strategies for the Gaza Strip must include efforts to curtail Iranian interference, which obstructs realistic solutions that could uplift Gaza and its people.

The path forward lies in supporting peace initiatives, enhancing regional and international cooperation, and holding obstructive actors accountable for perpetuating the blockade and starvation. Achieving genuine, just peace and lasting security in Gaza, Palestine, and the broader region is intrinsically linked to ending Iran’s destructive role and opening the door to a life of dignity and freedom for the people.
