Blame is directed at Syrian security forces, reflecting the worsening security chaos in the country, where lives are being desecrated without deterrence or accountability.
This brutal crime reminds us of the bitterness of security deterioration and the complete collapse of the rule of law. We have repeatedly warned that the loose control of weapons after the fall of the Assad regime, coupled with the lack of regulations, has turned Syria into a lawless jungle ruled by chaos and suffering.
In these circumstances, justice remains absent, as no real measures have been taken to hold the perpetrators accountable or to deliver justice to the victims. The proliferation of weapons outside legal frameworks poses an existential threat to all Syrians and imposes on the government a critical responsibility to restore security and enact strict laws to deal with illegal weapon possession, preventing further descent into chaos.
