Al-Hajri Sends Urgent Humanitarian Appeal to the United Nations to Lift the Mount Druze Siege

Sheikh Hikmat Salman Al-Hajri, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Syria, issued an urgent humanitarian appeal to the United Nations and international organizations, calling for immediate intervention to lift the “siege imposed on Mount Druze,” secure safe humanitarian corridors, and hold accountable those responsible for violations against civilian areas there.
In his statement issued on October 9, 2025, Al-Hajri urged the international community and the Security Council to act swiftly to end the siege, which has placed the residents of Mount Druze in dire humanitarian and living conditions. The area is suffering from a severe shortage of essential supplies, including food, medicine, fuel, and water, alongside outages of electricity, communications, and internet. Humanitarian and service institutions have also ceased operations.
The statement emphasized the deteriorating health situation in the region, noting cases of arbitrary arrests and measures of repression against the population by occupying armed groups. It called for urgent actions to end the siege, ensure the delivery of vital humanitarian aid, and urged the withdrawal of armed groups from the mountain villages, restoring lands to the approved administrative borders. The statement also proposed forming an independent UN fact-finding committee to investigate the current situation and submit an official report to the UN Security Council.
In conclusion, Sheikh Hikmat Salman reaffirmed the Druze community’s commitment to civil peace and Syria’s unity, stressing that the residents of the mountain do not want to be involved in internal conflicts. He called for respect for human rights and an end to all violations against civilians to preserve national unity and the safety of all citizens.
