Al-Shaddadi Electricity Workers Continue Working Without Salaries for Eight Months
Employees of the Electricity Corporation in the city of Al-Shaddadi, in the eastern countryside of Hasakah, continue to carry out their daily duties, repairing faults and maintaining the power grid, despite not receiving their salaries and financial dues for nearly eight months. This comes amid worsening living conditions and mounting economic burdens.
Activists from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the workers are continuing maintenance and repair operations to help ensure the continuity of electricity supplies to residents, despite the severe pressure caused by the prolonged delay in paying their financial entitlements.
The employees confirmed that they have not abandoned their professional responsibilities, out of concern for maintaining the operation of this vital facility, which serves thousands of families in the area. However, continuing to work without salaries is directly affecting their ability to provide their families with basic necessities.
The workers called on the relevant government authorities to intervene urgently to resolve their employment and financial status and to expedite the payment of their accumulated salaries and dues, in recognition of their continued performance of their duties and service to residents throughout the past months.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights considers that the continued delay in paying workers in essential service sectors is worsening their suffering and threatening the stability of public services. It therefore calls for urgent measures to guarantee employees’ rights while ensuring the continued operation of the vital facilities on which residents depend.
