Australia Re-Lists “Abu Maryam al-Australi” Under Counterterrorism Sanctions
The Australian government has re-listed Ibrahim Sukariyah, known in Syria as “Abu Maryam al-Australi,” under financial sanctions related to counterterrorism. Reports indicate that he holds an administrative role at the Syrian sovereign wealth fund. The decision covers 15 individuals and two entities.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Sukariyah’s re-listing was made under the Charter of the United Nations Act. It noted that counterterrorism-related financial sanctions automatically expire after three years unless they are reviewed and renewed.
The listing imposes financial restrictions, including a ban on making funds or assets available to the listed person, either directly or indirectly, under Australia’s sanctions regime.
Sukariyah had previously been listed by Australia. Authorities have now reviewed his status and renewed his listing, along with those of 14 other individuals and two entities, leaving him subject to financial sanctions for the coming period.
