Bassam Yahour apologizes for his political statements and expresses his regret

Actor Bassam Yahour expressed his regret over the political statements he made last year, which sparked widespread controversy. During an interview on the program "Qabil Lil Jadal" on Al Arabiya channel, on Saturday evening, he sincerely apologized to the Syrians, considering that "an apology is an act of literary, human, and moral bravery."
Yahour said: "To every person suffering or in pain, carrying on their shoulders a burden of hardship or worry caused by this difficult phase, if my statements have upset, hurt, or offended you, I sincerely apologize and say to you, I am sorry; this is my right, and it must be spoken."
Regarding his recent return to Damascus, he clarified that the homeland is his natural place to return to, adding: "I always visit Syria, especially after the comprehensive change that took place, which significantly altered my perspective."
He pointed out that "the balance of things shifts according to what personally affects me, reactions, and interactions with events — sometimes positively and sometimes negatively," explaining that his experience was a real test when he went down to the street to see people's reactions firsthand, away from social media pages.
He confirmed that the nature of an artist allows him to intervene directly and express his opinion on the political situation, while also expressing regret for the statements he made in previous media interviews. He said: "I wish I hadn’t spoken, because through my audience, some of them received the statements poorly. If I could go back in time, it would be better not to make those statements."
He hoped that he had previously limited himself to expressing his views through his artistic works, which carry human, cultural, and intellectual messages, instead of engaging directly in political debates.
