Child Killed Due to Gunfire Amidst the Chaos of Arms in Syria

A child died following an accidental shooting from a pistol in his possession. He was transferred to the hospital in the city of Tadmor but succumbed shortly after arrival. This incident occurs against the backdrop of the prevailing chaos surrounding the proliferation of weapons in the hands of unauthorized individuals, with little regard for deterrent measures.

In this context, the Syrian Observatory has documented 52 cases of accidental gunfire since the beginning of 2025 due to the spread of weapons and explosives among civilians, resulting in the deaths of 52 individuals, including 20 children, 5 women, and 27 men, in addition to 37 others injured, including 5 children. The incidents are distributed as follows:

Damascus Government Areas: 32 cases were recorded, resulting in the deaths of 35 people, including 13 children, 4 women, and 18 men. Additionally, 9 individuals were injured, including 3 children.

Autonomous Administration Areas: 13 cases were reported, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including 6 children, 1 woman, and 5 men, with 28 others injured, including 2 children.

Interim Government Areas: 5 cases were documented, leading to the deaths of 5 individuals, including 1 child and 4 men. The details of these cases are distributed as follows: 4 men and a young man in the "Euphrates Shield" areas, and 1 child in the "Olive Branch" areas.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for effective measures to combat the phenomenon of weapon proliferation and to protect lives.
