Explosion on Gas Pipeline Takes Three Power Plants in Rural Damascus Offline
انفجار على خط الغاز يخرج ثلاث محطات توليد في ريف دمشق عن الخدمة

The Syrian Electricity Company announced that three power-generating stations in rural Damascus had gone out of service following an explosion on the gas pipeline supplying the Tishreen power plant in the Al-Dumayr area.

The company said the affected stations include Deir Ali in Al-Kiswah, Al-Nasiriyah in Jirud, and Tishreen. It noted that the explosion disrupted the gas supplies required to operate the plants. The fire caused by the blast was still burning, while technical and specialized teams continued responding to the incident and managing its aftermath.

The company warned that the shutdown of the three stations would temporarily reduce electricity generation, potentially leading to longer power-rationing hours due to the decline in available generating capacity.

The incident came two days after a similar explosion in the Al-Shoula area south of Deir ez-Zor, which targeted a sectional valve on a gas transmission pipeline. At the time, the Syrian Petroleum Company said the fire had resulted from an “act of sabotage,” causing gas supplies from the Jbessa plant to power stations to be suspended.
