Fadi Saqr: War criminal returns to a resort in Latakia under security protection
فادي صقر

In a controversial scene, war criminal Fadi Saqr was warmly welcomed at the Laodicea Resort in Latakia, accompanied by his brothers Ammar and Milad within a convoy of eight vehicles, supported by a group of public security personnel under the supervision of a body known as "Security Follow-Up and Political Affairs" in Syria.

Saqr's visit is linked to arrangements concerning the resort's owner, Safwan Khair Bek, a leader in the "National Defense" militia and one of the prominent supporters of the militias associated with the Assad regime, accused of committing massacres in the city of Baniyas during the early years of the Syrian revolution. Thus, Saqr's visit is seen as part of the intricate connections between security and economic figures of the former regime.

This visit marks Saqr's second trip to the resort, with his first occurring about ten days ago, during which he was accompanied by his family and rented several private chalets away from other visitors, reflecting the security privileges he enjoys.

According to local sources, Saqr's visit also aimed to negotiate with some locals present at the Hmeimim base as part of new security arrangements. However, that attempt ended in failure, raising questions about the future of security mechanisms in the region.
