Mass Protests at the Russian Hmeimim Base Against Assassinations of Alawites

Thousands of citizens fleeing their homes, seeking safety at the Russian Hmeimim base, protested against the assassinations and crimes committed by elements of the Ministries of Defense and Interior, as well as the pro-government fighters, against members of the Alawite community.
The protesters chanted against what they described as ethnic cleansing and held banners demanding international protection from the assassinations that have resulted in the deaths of hundreds. Despite local efforts advising them to return to their homes with assurances of protection, the protesters at the base refused to leave.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 973 civilians had been killed in cold blood over the past few days.
In a related context, living conditions in the coastal areas and mountains have worsened as food supplies and daily necessities for families have been cut off for several days. This comes amid an ongoing security operation in the coast, which was a response to attacks by Alawite militants on security forces and the Ministry of Defense on Thursday, March 6.
