Protest and popular outrage in Aleppo after the killing of young man Abdel Rahman Jaajoul under torture in the Kalasa police station

The city of Aleppo witnessed a state of discontent and popular anger following the announcement of the death of young man Abdel Rahman Jaajoul during his detention at the Kalasa police station, amid demonstrations and protests in front of the police station demanding the truth and punishing those responsible.
The news of Jaajoul's death led to increased demands from civil society and activists on social media to disclose details of the incident, while the internal security leadership in the province announced the formation of a special investigation committee to look into the circumstances of the death.
Local media had reported yesterday, Monday, that Abdel Rahman Jaajoul died during his detention after being subjected to torture by police officers, a claim denied by security sources, who confirmed that he was not subjected to any form of torture after the conclusion of the investigation, and that he has been detained for over a week on a criminal case.
As a form of protest, a number of residents and members of the local community gathered in front of the Kalasa police station, expressing their deep dissatisfaction and anger over the incident, calling for a full disclosure of the truth and the bringing of the perpetrators to justice.
In the course of the investigations, Colonel Mohammed Abdel Ghani, commander of internal security in Aleppo, stated that his agency bears full responsibility for Jaajoul’s death, and ordered the suspension of the duty officer, the security and investigation officials until the final results are completed by the central investigation committee.
Abdel Ghani, during his attendance at the funeral gathering, pointed out that the Ministry of Interior is working diligently to build a state of clear justice law, sending a message to the community that strict measures are being taken in case of any neglect or torture, and confirmed that the incident will be subjected to a comprehensive investigation from the very first moment.
He also emphasized the need to reform and develop the infrastructure of security departments, indicating that the goal of the state is to establish security institutions founded on principles of justice and law, in an attempt to contain popular anger and rectify the situation.
These developments come amid a wide wave of public outrage, with the victim’s family and activists accusing security forces of negligence and ignoring real investigations, in addition to reports of physical assaults on Jaajoul before his death, which security sources denied, confirming that the detainee was on remand for a criminal case and had been held for over a week without evidence of torture.
While waiting for the investigation results, public anger remains intense, with expectations of further protests and demands for full disclosure and accountability. All eyes are now on the actions that the relevant authorities will take in the coming days.
