The Financial Times quoted Ukrainian officials as saying that the administration of US President Donald Trump is seeking to change the terms of economic agreements with Ukraine, especially regarding natural resources and energy.
The newspaper indicated that the United States wants to impose new conditions including control over Ukrainian nuclear power plants, as well as obtaining details about who owns the joint investment fund and energy and mineral assets in Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials explained that these conditions may put them in a difficult position, as they fear being forced to agree to unfavorable agreements as part of a broader deal, especially after Washington suspended arms supplies and intelligence information to Kyiv.
Later, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the rare earth metals deal between the United States and Ukraine will be signed soon, after it was postponed following the failure of talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump last February. Nevertheless, both sides expressed their openness to signing the deal in the near future.
