Syria: ISIS Cell Dismantled in Idlib Countryside, Weapons Cache Seized

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday the successful dismantling of a terrorist cell affiliated with ISIS in the Harem region of northern Idlib, following a coordinated security operation carried out by the Internal Security Command and the General Intelligence Directorate.
Brigadier General Ghassan Mohammad Bakir, head of Internal Security in Idlib Governorate, confirmed that the targeted raid led to the complete neutralization of the cell, whose members were found responsible for a series of assassinations that claimed the lives of five Iraqi nationals in separate incidents across the Idlib countryside—including the cities of Salqin, Azmarin, and the village of Kaftin.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of a weapons depot, which included suicide vests, explosive devices, sniper rifles, light machine guns, mortar shells, and raw explosive materials. Additionally, authorities discovered a workshop used for bomb-making and IED preparation. All materials were confiscated on-site.
The arrested individuals were transferred to the Counter-Terrorism Directorate for further investigation, in preparation for prosecution before the competent judicial authorities.
This operation is part of a broader counterterrorism campaign carried out by Syrian security forces. On May 26, Internal Security forces in Rural Damascus dismantled several ISIS cells operating in the Western Ghouta region, arresting numerous individuals and seizing large quantities of weapons and explosives.
Earlier, in January, the Ministry of Interior successfully foiled an ISIS plot to carry out a bombing near the Sayyida Zainab Shrine on the outskirts of Damascus, apprehending all those involved.
The Ministry affirmed its ongoing commitment to tracking down dormant cells and extremist groups across the country, as part of its efforts to safeguard national security and stability.
