الامن العام

Two members of Syrian security forces were killed in Tartous Governorate, in the west of the country, on Monday evening, as a result of an attack carried out by unknown militants near the city’s garage.

According to Syria TV correspondent, one of the vehicles refused to stop at a checkpoint and opened fire directly on security personnel, killing two members during their duty.

Security authorities in the province confirmed they have launched an intensive chase campaign to track down and arrest the attackers, emphasizing that justice will catch everyone attempting to destabilize Tartous’s security and endanger its residents.

In a related development, security sources reported on August 6 that the Chief of Internal Security in Tartous, Colonel Abdul-Aal Mohamed Abdul-Aal, managed to seize a cell linked to remnants of the toppled regime that was planning an attack on the Mar Elias Church in the Kharibat village of the Safita area.

Abdul-Aal stated that the cell was on its way to carry out a terrorist act involving the detonation of explosive devices inside the church, clarifying that the security operation was based on precise intelligence information.
