To Discuss the Integration File: Meeting in Damascus Between the SDF and the Autonomous Administration
The Autonomous Administration’s representative in Damascus, Abdel Karim Omar, announced a meeting today bringing together Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mazloum Abdi and co‑chair of the Autonomous Administration’s Foreign Affairs Office Ilham Ahmed with Transitional President Ahmed Al‑Shar in the Syrian capital to discuss challenges hindering political and military integration processes.
Omar told a press statement that the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) expressed a desire to join the Syrian Ministry of Defense, but the ministry refused, citing the absence of female formations within its structure, and proposed integrating them instead under the Ministry of Interior.
He added that the YPJ submitted a new proposal to join the Ministry of Interior as a specialized unit focused on “counter‑terrorism,” noting the proposal is still under discussion between the parties.
