US Envoy: Putin Prayed for Trump, and Ukraine Agrees to Elections
-
The Ukrainian presidential elections could be a pivotal step in reshaping the country's political landscape amid Russian and American pressures

US Special Envoy, Stephen Witkoff, announced that a meeting between former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin could take place in the coming months, noting that Putin expressed understanding regarding the difficulty of Trump visiting Russia at this time.
In an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson, Witkoff revealed that President Putin prayed for Trump after his recent assassination attempt, explaining that Putin did not view him at the time as a head of state but as a friend.
Witkoff also indicated that the Kremlin had sent a special message to Trump through him, a fact confirmed by Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who announced that Putin personally received Witkoff on March 14.
In a related development, Witkoff announced that the Ukrainian leadership had agreed to hold presidential elections, stating that the Russian position considers the current Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, as unelected, which, in Moscow’s view, makes reaching agreements with Kyiv impossible.
The US envoy added that the elections would be held soon, which could significantly affect Ukraine’s political scene.
Regarding geopolitical tensions, Witkoff affirmed that Washington completely rejects any threats of nuclear weapon use, whether strategic or tactical, noting that even a limited nuclear explosion could lead to the collapse of global financial markets.
He clarified that Trump’s policy is focused on finding a fair settlement for Ukraine, but stressed the need to avoid being dragged into a full-scale conflict that could lead to a third world war.
