100 Days of Waiting: Hamza’s Family Appeals for Information About His Fate
For 100 days, Hamza, from the village of Nahr al-Bared in western Hama countryside, has been missing from his family, leaving his parents awaiting his return amid a complete lack of information about his fate. His father, Ibrahim Sarem, has continued posting appeals on his personal page, calling for his son’s return, while calls have been made to organize a silent vigil today in solidarity with Hamza and his family.
Several months ago, Ibrahim said he had received calls from a person impersonating an army colonel who claimed he could help locate Hamza in exchange for money. Despite his difficult financial circumstances, the father made payments in the hope of recovering his son, only to discover that he had been defrauded.
Ibrahim said he filed an official complaint with the Salhab District Directorate regarding his son’s disappearance and the extortion and fraud he had experienced while searching for him. Local sources reported seeing Hamza get into a black car in the al-Suqaylabiyah area, but they were unable to identify the vehicle’s make or license-plate number.
Although official authorities informed the father that they intended to launch an investigation and search for Hamza, 100 days have passed without any new information. The circumstances of his disappearance and his whereabouts remain unknown, while appeals continue for serious action to uncover what happened and return him to his family.
