Israeli Leaks Point to Possible Expansion of Military Operations in Syria
The Israeli news website **Walla** reported that discussions are underway within the Israeli military establishment about expanding operations in Syria, amid leaks suggesting that the idea of advancing toward Damascus has been raised.
According to a source in the Israeli military cited by the website, expanding military movements to include villages and areas between the border and targeted sites is considered necessary to counter what Israel describes as “threats and hostile intentions.”
The source said that incursions deeper into Syrian territory are intended to strengthen the military’s ability to monitor and track potential threats before they reach areas near the border.
Walla also quoted a senior Israeli officer as saying that military operations inside Syria are being carried out intensively and continuously, indicating a broader scope of Israeli activity, particularly in the southern region.
The officer added that a large number of soldiers had expressed their willingness to advance toward Damascus, noting that the idea of “invading the Syrian capital” was raised during the Israeli chief of staff’s visit to the area approximately two weeks ago.
These leaks come amid continued Israeli incursions into Syrian territory, especially in the south, alongside United Nations warnings that some of these actions could constitute violations of international law. The Independent International Commission of Inquiry has documented cases of incursions, raids, and the detention of civilians.
