Today, Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) carried out a campaign of raids and arrests in the town of Ghranij in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, resulting in the detention of more than 20 individuals, including four elderly people. The charges against them or the location to which they were transferred remain unclear until now.

According to Syria TV's correspondent, several residents of the Himaal neighborhood in the town were subjected to physical assault and verbal abuse by SDF members. Additionally, they insulted the elderly and stole some belongings from their homes.

This campaign comes amid escalating security tensions in the region, amidst repeated criticism from human rights and community organizations regarding the arbitrary detention methods employed by the SDF in areas under their control in eastern Syria.

In a related context, activists in eastern Syria condemned the wide-scale arrest campaigns recently carried out by the SDF, calling on the Syrian government to intervene immediately to release the detainees and take necessary measures to protect them. They also urged the need to establish measures to safeguard the rights of detainees, warning that continued practices of this kind could lead to broader security escalation and open the door to more violations against civilians.
