Binnish Explosion Raises Questions Over Ammunition Depot and Responsibility for Its Presence Among Civilians
The explosion that rocked the city of Binnish in the Idlib countryside, killing five people and injuring others, has renewed questions about the party operating the ammunition depot and responsibility for storing hazardous materials in a populated area.
Media outlets close to the authorities circulated footage from the scene, reporting that the depot did not belong to the Ministry of Defense or any official military entity. However, in the absence of a comprehensive official statement, the denial has failed to resolve questions regarding the depot’s ownership and the party overseeing it.
Activists and commentators have asked: If the depot did not belong to an official military entity, who did it belong to? Who authorized the storage of such quantities of ammunition? And how was this dangerous site allowed to remain inside the city, near homes and roads, without adequate safety measures or oversight to prevent a disaster?
These questions do not constitute a pre-emptive accusation against any specific party. Rather, they underscore the need for a transparent official investigation to clarify the depot’s ownership, the nature of the materials stored there, and the entities responsible for its management and supervision.
