Brussels Demonstration: No to Dictatorship, Yes to Democracy

In a historic moment marked by escalating internal crisis within the Iranian regime and increasing international pressure, an exceptional event sends a powerful message to the world: a massive demonstration by Iranians in Brussels. This gathering is not just an ordinary protest; it is a vivid reflection of the Iranian people's unbreakable will, a voice loudly asserting the right in the face of forty years of repression. The significance of this demonstration lies in its embodiment of the voices of thousands of Iranians inside the country, who find no other way to express their demands except through gatherings of their resistance supporters abroad.
In a video shown during the dialogue session, it was emphasized that the crowds participating in the Brussels demonstration are an extension of the people across Iran, embodying the cry of the families of 120,000 martyrs fallen at the hands of this regime. It is the voice demanding justice for the victims of the 1988 massacre and the voice of resistance units active deep within Iran, leading the inevitable uprising.
Impact and Demands of the Demonstration
On Saturday, September 6, tens of thousands of Iranians in Brussels will hold a major rally on the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the MEK (People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran), declaring their support for the force that has fought for sixty years against two dictatorships: the Shah and the mullahs. They will also reaffirm their backing for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s ten-point plan for a democratic Iran of tomorrow. This demonstration coincides with a historic turning point for Iran, and the presence of such a large crowd carries special messages and implications.
The most important message linked to the sixtieth anniversary of the MEK’s founding is that this organization, the backbone of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, has fought a continuous struggle for sixty years against the Shah’s dictatorship and the mullahs’ regime—despite the most severe repression, executions, and massacres. Its influence has grown steadily, making it today the primary threat to the regime’s survival.
The gathering of tens of thousands of Iranians in Brussels is unprecedented—similar to the massive protests during the 2022 uprising, when Iranians abroad took to the streets in large demonstrations. Today, we witness a similar situation, with this huge rally sending critical messages to the world. The key message is that the real solution to Iran’s problems is summarized in one phrase: “The third way”—neither war nor compromise with the regime, but its overthrow through the people’s uprising and organized resistance. The international community must stand with the Iranian people and their resistance if it truly seeks to free itself from the evil of this regime.
Another message from the Brussels demonstration is that there is a viable alternative for Iran—one with a sixty-year history of struggle, internal grassroots support, and a clear program to transfer sovereignty to the people and build a democratic, progressive Iran that is peaceful and friendly with the region and the world.
International Solidarity with the Iranian People’s Struggle
This demonstration enjoys not only the support of Iranians abroad but also broad solidarity from various international circles. Hundreds of political, parliamentary, human rights, cultural figures, writers, and others have announced their support for the demands of this rally and their intention to participate. In a significant step reflecting this growing support, 102 Nobel Peace laureates sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General expressing solidarity with the Iranian resistance and urging the establishment of democracy in Iran through the National Council of Resistance’s program and Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s ten-point plan. This confirms that the solution offered by the resistance is a humane and practical one, accepted worldwide.
In summary, this demonstration essentially represents the social network of the MEK and the Iranian resistance inside the country—a network not limited to uprising units but encompassing a broad spectrum of various segments of society across Iran. The regime fears such gatherings and protests intensely because it knows well that every outside voice represents thousands of opposition voices within the country, subjected to severe suppression and strangulation. This demonstration is the voice of oppressed masses, reaffirming that the will of the Iranian people cannot be broken and that hope for freedom and democracy is alive today in the streets of Brussels.
