Golan Religious Authority Denies Issuing Misattributed Statement and Expresses Solidarity with Suwayda Residents
The Golan Religious Authority, represented by religious leaders, clerics, and dignitaries, denied responsibility for a statement circulated on social media in recent hours and attributed to it under the name “the Religious Authority of the Occupied Golan.”
In a statement received by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the authority affirmed that the circulated text does not represent its position or views and was not issued by it in any form. It called on the public to verify information and rely on official sources before circulating statements or remarks attributed to the authority.
The denial came less than 24 hours after the Observatory published a statement it had received from an entity using the same name. The statement addressed the affiliation of the Druze community with its Arab and Muslim surroundings and rejected the use of religious doctrine in political conflicts or its exploitation to serve the projects and ambitions of states.
In its new statement, the Golan Religious Authority stressed its full respect for the choices of residents of Suwayda Governorate, affirming their right to make whatever decisions they deem appropriate for their interests and future, freely and without interference in their affairs or choices.
The authority also expressed solidarity with the people of Suwayda, stating that they had been subjected, in its words, to massacres and violations at the hands of the “Damascus authorities.” It reaffirmed its support for them in confronting what it described as oppression and coercion.
The authority concluded by urging the public to verify information with official sources before publishing it and not to be drawn into rumors or statements falsely attributed to it, stressing that this was essential to preserving unity and the credibility of public positions.
