مظاهرات حاشدة في السويداء تطالب بـ"حق تقرير المصير" وتثير جدلاً واسعاً

Today, in the afternoon, Suwayda Province in southern Syria witnessed large protests in Al-Karama Square in the city center, where demonstrators raised slogans calling for the "Right to self-determination," amidst a state of tension and frustration in the region.

These protests come amid a state of siege imposed on the province, according to local sources, as the area has experienced widespread human rights violations following attacks carried out by tribes of Bedouins, with cooperation from the Syrian Interior and Defense forces.

During the demonstrations, some protesters raised the Druze community’s flags, as well as Israeli flags, which sparked anger and a range of reactions. Some segments of the protesters condemned the display of the Israeli flag, considering it an irresponsible act, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The demands for the "Right to self-determination" raised by the protesters have sparked extensive controversy across the country, due to fears that such calls could be a step toward secession, especially after recent escalation in the province, which has seen incidents of killing, looting, and burning.

While local residents are demanding their rights, the future of the region remains fraught with risks, amid rising concerns over potential larger security tensions that could undermine efforts to maintain national unity and stability.
