Syria's national team begins its Asian campaign with a victory over Pakistan

The Syrian team managed to achieve a deserved win against their Pakistani counterparts, with the match played on Tuesday evening, March 25, in Saudi Arabia, ending with a score of two goals to none. This match marked the first for the team after the political changes that the country has experienced.

The Syrian team scored its first goal through player Ahmad Faqa in the 23rd minute of the first half, utilizing a powerful header from a corner kick. In the second half, forward Omar Al-Soma added the second goal in the 56th minute, further strengthening his team's lead.

With this victory, Syria topped Group E with three points, ahead of Myanmar on goal difference, which holds the second position with the same points.

Group E includes, in addition to the Syrian team, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Afghanistan, as the Syrians aim to secure the top spot in the group to guarantee qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup to be held in Saudi Arabia.

The final round of the qualifiers is conducted in a home-and-away league format over six rounds, starting from March 25, 2025, until March 31, 2026. In the next match, the Syrian team will face Afghanistan on their home ground on June 10, followed by a match against Myanmar on October 9, before returning to confront Pakistan on November 18, with the final meetings taking place against the Afghan team in Saudi Arabia on March 31, 2026.
