A video clip of Syrian media personality Ghalia Al-Tabbaa has sparked widespread controversy on social media platforms in recent hours, after being heavily circulated among users of websites in Syria.
The recorded clip contained a message directed by Al-Tabbaa to the Syrian temporary caretaker government, regarding Damascus city and those coming to it from other governorates, where she expressed opinions that some considered discriminatory.
The video spread rapidly across social media, accompanied by varied comments, while internet users began asking "who is Ghalia Al-Tabbaa," with reactions ranging between critics of her statements and those demanding measures against her.
In the video, Al-Tabbaa spoke about her appeal to the government regarding people coming from outside the capital, describing them as "not having showered for years and looking strange" and that they "look at women and girls in an uncomfortable way," which followers considered an unacceptable generalization.
Circulating information indicates that Ghalia Al-Tabbaa is a Syrian media personality, while some circles describe her as close to the previous regime, without official confirmations regarding these classifications.
In light of these statements, media personality Mousa Al-Omar announced via the "X" platform that he had filed a complaint before the Public Prosecutor and the Director of General Security in Damascus against Al-Tabbaa, on allegations of attacking Syrian national unity and using discriminatory terms.
Al-Omar's post stated that the complaint was submitted based on "the provisions of Article 307" of the Penal Code, demanding her referral for investigation and taking appropriate legal measures.
The issue remains of interest to Syrian public opinion, especially in light of the sensitive transitional phase the country is going through, which requires media discourse that takes into account various societal sensitivities.
