Syrian Researcher Nora Ismail to Receive 2026 MVP Award
Arab America has selected Syrian American researcher Nora Ismail to receive its 2026 Most Valuable Person (MVP) Award in recognition of her volunteer work and contributions to the Arab American community.
In a statement published on Monday, October 26, the organization said Ismail will be honored on November 7 at the “Association” gala, held as part of the CONNECT Empowerment Summit in Virginia.
Arab America praised Ismail as an international development specialist, researcher, and community leader, citing her commitment to volunteerism and to strengthening connections among members of the Arab American community.
Ismail is pursuing a doctorate at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Her research examines refugees’ access to skilled migration pathways and the role of government policies, institutions, and social networks in helping displaced people secure employment outside their host countries.
She previously served as a senior programs officer at Talent Beyond Boundaries, an organization that connects skilled refugees with international employment opportunities. In that role, she helped expand the organization’s operations to 14 countries and supported refugees from 26 nationalities in accessing long-term jobs, working with governments and international organizations, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Ismail is also a co-founder and principal investigator of the Hilm research initiative. Earlier in her career, she worked with Ashoka’s social finance team and with Kiva in Lebanon, where she helped develop financing programs for vulnerable communities.
She holds a master’s degree in political science from Columbia University and an MBA from the University of Oxford. She was previously named to Arab America’s “40 Under 40” list and recognized through the Global Innovators program at Expo Dubai.
Ismail has volunteered with Arab America since 2021 and currently serves as co-lead of the organization’s New York team, helping organize events and foster connections within the community.
Arab America works to promote Arab heritage and strengthen ties among Arab communities across the United States through cultural, educational, and community programs.
