Tension and Public Anger in Al-Huwaiyiz Village, Jableh Countryside, After Disappearance of Eight-Year-Old Girl
Al-Huwaiyiz village in the Jableh countryside witnessed tension and public anger after an eight-year-old girl went missing under mysterious circumstances, amid heavy security deployment and the arrival of reinforcements led by the district director.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, citing local sources, reported that a group of nomads residing around the village and its dam abducted the girl, Natali Muhammad Al-Dakhil, from her family home this morning, taking advantage of the family members’ absence while they were at work. The sources said the abduction followed previous disputes over grazing on agricultural lands, after villagers filed complaints that led to the nomads being barred from entering private lands.
Villagers reportedly blocked the main road leading to the village in protest at what they described as a delayed response by the Public Security forces to recover the girl, while security forces maintained a wide presence and additional reinforcements arrived in an attempt to contain the rising tensions.
Families and residents are demanding urgent action to determine the girl’s fate and return her to her relatives, holding security authorities responsible for any delay and fearing escalation if the circumstances remain unclear.
The Syrian Observatory warned of the danger of allowing such incidents to continue without swift and decisive resolution, as they could fuel social unrest and spark sectarian-style clashes that would only serve those seeking to undermine community stability. The Observatory called for immediate action by the competent authorities to clarify the circumstances, return the child, and hold accountable anyone responsible according to the law to prevent further escalation and protect social peace.
