Researcher Anticipates Announcement of State of Emergency and Martial Law in Turkey Due to Protests
With the Spread of Protests in Turkey, Indications of Erdogan Announcing Martial Law and a State of Emergency

Press Statement:

Political researcher and analyst Zaidan Al-Qanai stated that Turkish authorities may move to impose a state of emergency and martial law in light of the expanding protests due to the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, a potential rival to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the presidential elections.

He added that the widening scope of popular protests in Turkey could prompt the Turkish president to declare a state of emergency. According to the Turkish constitution, a state of emergency can be declared if there are serious indications of violence aimed at disrupting order.

He continued: Declaring a state of emergency in Turkey would lead to an expansion of government powers and the seizure of assets and properties of opposition figures in Turkey, as well as tightening restrictions on the Turkish opposition.
