Mazloum Abdi: Saudi Arabia Can Play a Constructive Role as Mediator in Our Negotiations with Damascus

The Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, confirmed in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channels that daily communication channels with the Syrian government remain open. He emphasized the mutual understanding between the SDF and Damascus regarding the unity of Syrian territory under one army and one flag, as he put it.
Abdi categorically denied any role for Turkey in these negotiations, expressing his belief that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia could play a positive role as a mediator, especially in light of its significant efforts in easing sanctions imposed on Syria.
Regarding his meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, Abdi described it as positive and affirmed that he had not received any formal offer from the Syrian government to assume a new position.
The SDF commander highlighted the importance of maintaining the central authority of certain sovereign institutions in the capital, Damascus, stressing that Syria’s future should include a unified military under what he called a “military centralization.”
Abdi also stated that the Kurdish community broadly supports the proposals put forth by the SDF, while noting concerns about integration into the Syrian army without clear constitutional guarantees to protect their rights.
