The toll indicates a worrying escalation in the pace of local disputes that rapidly turn into deadly armed confrontations, amid a clear inability to contain disputes and prevent their escalation — a situation that heightens civilian fears and threatens community stability in the areas of the Transitional Government.
The clashes during the first week of August were recorded in the following provinces:
- Rif Dimashq: 1 clash — 3 killed, 5 wounded
- Raqqa: 1 clash — 3 killed (including a child), 3 wounded
- Deir ez-Zor: 1 clash — 1 killed
- As-Suwayda: 1 clash — 1 killed, 1 wounded
- Aleppo: 1 clash — 1 killed, 1 wounded
SOHR documented the incidents as follows:
August 1: In the town of al-Maydani in the Douma area of Rif Dimashq, a violent armed confrontation erupted between youths from two families after a dispute escalated into heavy gunfire exchange, killing three and wounding five others with varying injuries.
August 2: The death toll rose to three, including a child, in the clash between the al-Naʿamat and al-Abdallah families — who are cousins — in the village of al-Suwayda in the Maadan subdistrict east of Raqqa. Earlier clashes between the two families had already left one man dead and three others injured, amid tension and mobilization in the village.
August 3: A citizen was killed by a gunshot in the town of al-Shuhail in eastern Deir ez-Zor after fierce tribal clashes that involved light and medium weapons between local parties, causing fear and disruption to daily life.
August 7: One person died and another was wounded in a serious brawl that escalated to firearm use in al-Jalaa neighborhood near Jarra roundabout in As-Suwayda city.
August 7: The town of al-Tamoura near Andan in northern Aleppo witnessed violent family clashes between members of two families who used firearms following disputes, resulting in one dead and another critically wounded. The incident provoked local tension and mobilization, alongside efforts to contain its repercussions and prevent a wider spread of clashes.
These bloody incidents confirm the persistence of security chaos and the widespread presence of weapons among civilians, amid the absence of effective mechanisms to contain local disputes before they turn into armed confrontations that claim more lives. It also renews its appeal to strengthen the role of security and judicial institutions and to launch community initiatives to reduce local conflicts and address their root causes, contributing to civilian protection and preventing recurrence of such deadly incidents.
