A young man was martyred inside a Syrian government prison in Homs as a result of torture, after several months of detention by elements at the Fakhoura checkpoint in the city. According to sources, his family was able to identify his body through photos posted at the forensic medicine center.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights called for holding accountable those involved in the acts of killing under torture, emphasizing the need to ensure they do not escape punishment, in order to put an end to these violations and the cycle of violence.

With this, the number of victims of torture within the “Interim Government” prisons has risen to 47 detainees, most of whom are from Homs Governorate. This alarming figure indicates an increasing pattern of violations and deaths in detention centers, reflecting a deterioration of human rights conditions in the region.
