Accusations That the Interior Ministry Fabricates Political Charges Against Detainees to Score Media Scoop
A Syrian citizen living in Germany posted a video today appealing to the interior minister to intervene after his father, Adel Abdallah al-Saeed, appeared among detainees in an operation the Syrian Interior Ministry said targeted a "cell belonging to ISIS" arrested in Khan Arnabah in Quneitra governorate.
In the video the man says his father resides in Germany and has no ties to the group, noting that his brother, Mohammad Adel al-Saeed, who also appeared among the detainees, holds German citizenship. He added that his uncle and his niece’s son also appear among the accused.
Local sources reported that the Interior Ministry published an announcement about the arrest of the cell and then deleted the post from its official accounts without explaining the reason for the removal or providing further information about the detainees’ identities or places of detention.
The incident has raised questions among activists and lawyers about the accuracy of the accusations, especially since this is not the first time the Interior Ministry has been accused of fabricating cases or directing political charges at individuals—allegations that can lead to rapid investigations and media promotion—according to past records and complaints. The ministry has not issued a detailed official response to explain the circumstances or answer the family’s inquiries.
