As-Suwayda: Ceasefire agreed upon after 116 people killed

The Minister of Defense of the interim government issued clear instructions to fully suspend fire within As-Suwayda city, following an understanding reached with local elders and dignitaries. The decision specifies that responses should be limited to sources of fire only, and any targeting by lawless groups will be dealt with firmly, without additional escalation initiatives.
Over a 48-hour period, the clashes resulted in the death of 116 people, including 64 residents of As-Suwayda, among them two children and two women, in addition to 52 members of the Ministry of Defense, internal security, and armed tribal fighters.
This escalation stems from tribal tensions and local protests that began after a young man from As-Suwayda was assaulted by a tribal group near the Musmiyyah area. He was beaten and robbed before being released in a critical health condition. In response, local residents detained members of the tribes, leading to the setting up of a checkpoint in the Al-Muqous neighborhood, holding local armed individuals, and cutting off the main road. This escalation poses a serious threat to stability in the region.
