Authorities Arrest Four Activists in Damascus Following Protests over Deteriorating Living Conditions
توقيف أربعة ناشطين في دمشق بعد احتجاجات على تدهور الأوضاع المعيشية

The authorities arrested four activists—Zeina Shahla, Alia Shams, Fadi Zidan, and Ubay Kaadan—for taking part in a protest outside the Parliament building in Damascus. During the demonstration, they expressed their opposition to the economic policies in place and the deteriorating living conditions.

Participants carried banners criticizing the economic situation, including one addressed to the interim president that read: “Europe and America won’t help you; we, your people, will.”

Activists called today, Thursday, for the immediate release of those detained, rejecting their continued detention until Sunday under any pretext or justification. They also urged that the case receive widespread attention and be shared publicly.

The arrests come amid continued economic and livelihood pressures in Syria, as public criticism grows over the worsening living conditions of the population.
