Building Violations Escalate in Shahba as Calls Grow to Protect Municipal Employees
مخالفات البناء في شهبا تتفاقم وسط مطالب بحماية موظفي البلدية

Violations involving public property, sidewalks, and roads are increasing in the city of Shahba, alongside a rise in unauthorized construction. These issues are creating challenges that hinder the municipality’s efforts to address them, according to a source who spoke to the Suwayda Documentation and Media Center on condition of anonymity.

The source said municipal employees face threats and assaults while trying to carry out their duties. They added that when an assistant engineer is sent to inspect and document violations, the visit is often met with hostility and physical attacks. This obstructs the work of the relevant teams and prevents them from filing reports against those responsible.

According to the source, the lack of adequate protection for employees weakens the municipality’s ability to enforce legal procedures and hold violators accountable. It also leaves public property, sidewalks, and roads vulnerable to further encroachment, as the city’s capacity to monitor and document violations declines.

In response, Shahba residents are calling on the judicial police to intervene, protect municipal employees, and enable them to carry out their duties. They are also urging authorities to put an end to the threats and assaults that obstruct their work, so that laws can be enforced, violations addressed, and those responsible held accountable in accordance with legal procedures.
