Contract teachers in Daraa protest for regularization and salary payment
Dozens of contract teachers in Daraa held a protest in front of the provincial Education Directorate demanding an end to the contract system under which they were hired and their formal regularization into the Ministry of Education payroll, as well as the timely payment of their salaries and monthly entitlements.
Protesters carried banners and chanted slogans focused on regularization, overdue wages, and teacher dignity, calling to stop arbitrary decisions and cancel recruitment exams for contract staff under the slogan "No dismissals, no exams for contract teachers." Participants said that demanding "salaries and regularization" is a legitimate, fundamental right and expressed indignation at being forced to stand in the streets and before officials to claim the legally guaranteed regularization after five years or more of service.
They insisted that converting temporary contracts into permanent appointments is necessary to secure job stability and social protection, stressing that regularization and salary payment are not privileges but basic rights and the foundation of teacher dignity. Protesters pledged to continue peaceful actions and escalate pressure until the Ministry of Education responds to their demands and ends the marginalization and delay preventing their professional and economic stability.
