Fake Honor for Mona Wassef… To Mislead Public Opinion

A cultural ceremony was held at the University of Damascus during which artist Mona Wassef was honored. She was awarded the title of "Global Ambassador of Peace" by an organization claimed to be affiliated with human rights. The event was attended officially, under the patronage of the Minister of Social Affairs, Hind Qubayat, who exchanged congratulations with the honoree in a moment that drew significant media attention and amplified its publicity.
Media coverage portrayed this as an international recognition of Mona Wassef’s artistic and humanitarian career, with many outlets using the term "UN Peace Ambassador" or similar titles, reinforcing the impression that the event had official backing from a UN body. However, the organization granting the title appears to have no official status within the United Nations, and is not listed in the records of internationally recognized organizations.
According to investigations, the organization that awarded the title does not exist within the official structures of the UN. It relies on paid memberships and symbolic affiliation cards. Its founder, Ali Aqil Khalil, presents himself as a UN ambassador, using forged passports and having a criminal record in Lebanon with charges related to fraud and impersonation. During its activities, the organization has posted images glorifying the ousted regime, and its founder has appeared in meetings with trusted figures, including Bashar al-Assad, raising doubts about its authenticity and legitimacy.
The danger of such practices extends beyond media deception; it lies in the ability of these fictitious entities to infiltrate the public scene and reinstall the influence of corrupt figures claiming to represent principles of human rights and the rights of peoples. They do so by exploiting symbols and icons deceptively. In a time when genuine and transparent institutions are needed to reflect the course of international justice, these practices reveal how media tools and symbolic gestures are manipulated to serve illegitimate agendas, ultimately weakening trust in civil society institutions and human rights activism.
