Israeli aircraft target military vehicle in Sweida

Israeli aircraft carried out an airstrike targeting a military vehicle affiliated with the Syrian government forces in the city of Sweida, marking a new field development south of Syria. According to sources from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, several loud explosions were heard in the area, with no precise confirmation yet of the extent of losses or the number of casualties.
This attack came hours after intensive Israeli flight activity in the skies over southern Syria, coinciding with escalating tensions and ongoing clashes in Sweida for the third consecutive day.
Since the beginning of 2025, the Syrian Observatory reports 68 Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, including 58 airstrikes and 10 ground targeting operations, resulting in the destruction and injury of around 100 targets, including weapon and ammunition depots, military centers, and vehicles. These operations resulted in 37 deaths, including:
- 10 from the military operations and Defense Ministry, with 21 others wounded.
- 3 unidentified individuals, including two of Lebanese nationality.
- 15 civilians, with 3 others injured.
- 9 civilians armed.
The attacks were distributed across various regions as follows:
- Aleppo: 7 strikes.
- Damascus and its countryside: 17 strikes, causing the death of two civilians, unidentified individuals, and two military personnel.
- Sweida: 4 strikes.
- Rural Homs: 8 strikes, including 2 on the Syrian-Lebanese border through unofficial crossings.
- Quneitra and its countryside: 6 strikes, resulting in the death of one civilian and members of the military operations management, with another injured.
- Daraa: 9 strikes, leading to the death of 4 civilians and a military personnel, with others wounded.
- Tartous: 2 strikes.
- Latakia: 4 strikes, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to three others.
- Hama: 2 strikes, killing 4 members of the military operations management.
Regarding ground targeting operations, they included:
- Daraa countryside: 5 operations, resulting in the death of 16 civilians from armed groups and injuries to others.
- Rif Damascus: one operation.
- Rif Quneitra: 4 operations.
The Syrian Observatory notes that Israel often targets more than one governorate in a single attack, which explains the variation in the number of operations and the geographical distribution. Since the fall of Bashar Assad's regime on December 8, 2023, and up to the end of 2024, Israel has carried out approximately 500 airstrikes on Syrian areas, destroying the entire Syrian military arsenal.
