Netanyahu announces a brief and tense phone call with al-Sharaa
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that he had held a phone call with Syria’s interim president, Ahmad al-Sharaa.
Netanyahu described the call as “brief and decisive,” saying that the massacres in Suwayda province had stopped following the conversation.
The Israeli prime minister reiterated that Tel Aviv would not allow massacres targeting members of the Druze community.
He stressed the importance of Syrian Druze returning to their homes, saying: “There is more that needs to be done, and there are steps we will take for the Druze, but I cannot disclose them.”
Netanyahu concluded by saying that his commitment to defending the Druze stemmed from a deep personal conviction, adding that it “comes from the depths of the soul.”
