Reuters: U.S. Sudden Dismissal of Senior Diplomats Involved in Syria File
Reuters confirmed that the United States recently dismissed several senior diplomats involved in the Syria file unexpectedly. The agency reported today, Thursday, that these diplomats are part of the Syria regional team based in Istanbul, reporting to Thomas Barrack, the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria and former President Trump's advisor.
A source told the agency that some members of the team were informed that their assignments had ended as part of a reorganization process within the mission. The source also confirmed that this change would not affect U.S. policy toward Syria and that the decision is unrelated to any disagreements between the staff and Barrack or the White House.
So far, neither the U.S. State Department nor Thomas Barrack has issued an official statement clarifying the reasons behind this move, and the reasons remain largely unclear.
