Survivor of Qardaha Massacres Recounts the Killing of Her Two Children and Husband During the March 2025 Violence
A survivor of the violence that swept through the Qardaha area in the Latakia countryside in March 2025 recounts the details of an armed group’s raid on her home and the shooting of her and her family members, according to her testimony.
The survivor says the attack resulted in the deaths of her two children—**Kmeit Majd Nassiri, 8, and Jamza Majd Nassiri, 10—as well as her husband, Majd Hussein Nassiri**. She further states that the family was targeted because of its Alawite identity.
The testimony comes amid reports of mass killings and abuses against Alawite civilians in several parts of Syria’s coastal region, particularly between March 6 and 17, 2025, with additional incidents reported in early April of the same year.
According to varying estimates and human rights and media reports, between 1,000 and 2,000 people were killed during those events, most of them civilians. Armed groups aligned with Syria’s interim government have been accused of responsibility for some of the violations, reportedly in the context of security operations targeting armed remnants linked to the former Syrian government.
Reports have warned that conflating sectarian identity with affiliation to the former government led to civilians being targeted on the basis of their identity. In some cases, armed men reportedly raided homes, questioned residents about their sectarian affiliation, and killed some of them based on their answers. These incidents have prompted widespread condemnation and calls for independent, transparent investigations and accountability for those responsible.
