Syria Reiterates UN Security Council Resolution Rejecting Trump’s Recognition of Israel’s Sovereignty Over the Golan

In an escalatory move, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reissued the text of the UN Security Council resolution that explicitly rejects Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights. This comes in response to former U.S. President Donald Trump's recent statements, in which he renewed his recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Syrian-occupied area.
This step by the Syrian Foreign Ministry is a direct reaction to Trump’s recent remarks, in which he reaffirmed his recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights. This constitutes a clear violation of international legitimacy resolutions and Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which deemed Israel's annexation of the Golan null and void, and contrary to international norms and Syria’s historical rights over the region.
In an official statement, the Syrian Foreign Ministry reminded the international community of Damascus’s steadfast position, which strongly rejects any attempt to legitimize the Israeli occupation of the Golan. It called on the international community to assume its legal and political responsibilities to halt Israeli unilateral policies and urged the implementation of relevant UN resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution 237 of 1967, which affirmed the illegitimacy of Israel’s occupation of the Golan Heights and called for Israel's complete withdrawal from the area.
The Foreign Ministry also emphasized that the new American propaganda does not change the legal and geographical reality, and that Syria will remain committed to its legitimate right to reclaim every inch of its occupied territory. It called for increased international pressure on Israel to compel compliance with UN resolutions and to reject any international recognition that legitimizes the occupation.
This step is part of Damascus’s broader stance of supporting the international community's refusal to accept the annexation of occupied territories amid continued Israeli obstinacy and attempts to impose sovereignty over the region. Syrian officials express concerns that this escalation may further complicate the regional and international situation regarding the Golan issue.
