The Urgent Need for Deep Reform: Building a Democratic Republic as a Guarantee for Iran's Future
تيسير كريشان

Today, Iran is experiencing one of the most sensitive moments in its modern history, as political, social, and economic crises accumulate and reach their peak. At the same time, Iranian society becomes increasingly aware that maintaining the current regime is no longer a feasible or acceptable option. It has become clear that the entire Iranian society recognizes the necessity of profound change—not only at the level of authority but also in the complete overhaul of the state’s structure, institutions, and political and social culture.

The System's Decay and Signs of Collapse

The Iranian regime has relied for over four decades on repression, executions, and restriction of freedoms to sustain itself. However, recent years have seen an unprecedented rise in popular protests and increased activity of uprising units across various Iranian cities. The surge in executions, escalating poverty and unemployment, and the erosion of the religious authority’s legitimacy all serve as indicators that the regime has lost the ability to continue and that the hour of change has approached. Today, the Iranian society, especially women and youth, refuses to submit to the religious dictatorship and seeks a democratic alternative that guarantees freedom, justice, and equality. Recent experiences have shown that repression can no longer break the will of the people; instead, it has strengthened their resolve to resist and stand firm.

The Need for a Genuine Democratic Alternative

In this context, the urgent need arises for a true democratic alternative—one rooted in the fabric of the Iranian people’s struggle and sacrifices. This alternative should be independent of external projects or solutions imposed by colonial or reactionary powers. A genuine alternative must be led by capable leadership, have strong organization, and be based on a clear, honest future program grounded in a broad social base and long-standing revolutionary experience—ensuring stability and meeting the demands of the people.

The Iranian Resistance, through the National Council of Resistance, has proposed a detailed program for building a new Iran. It is based on separating religion from state power, gender equality, abolishing the death penalty, establishing an independent judiciary, respecting the rights of nationalities and minorities, and guaranteeing fundamental freedoms. This program is not merely slogans; it is the fruit of decades of struggle and sacrifices, and a practical experience not only in building, organization, and leadership but also on all levels.

A Roadmap for Democratic Transition

The resistance’s program emphasizes that the path to a free Iran passes through forming a transitional government—an interim authority after overthrowing the regime—that will organize free elections within six months. The people will then elect a Constituent Assembly that will draft the constitution of the new republic. This process must include all political and social currents, preventing the repetition of tragic experiences of coups or the rise of new dictatorships. Women and youth play a central and vital role, as women constitute a large percentage of the resistance’s leadership cadres, and young people are actively involved in uprising units—reflecting the deep-rooted desire for change within Iranian society.

Change in the Hands of the People, Not External Powers

Iran’s experience has proven that neither bargaining with the regime nor external military intervention can bring about real change. Only the Iranian people, through organized resistance and revolutionary units, have the capacity to overthrow the regime and build a new future. The international community’s role should be to recognize the people's right to resist and support their struggle for freedom, without imposing solutions, practicing external tutelage, or designing manipulative projects aimed at preserving the mullah regime or introducing new crises.

The Horizon of a Free Iran

The future of Iran lies in establishing a true democratic republic that guarantees the rights of all citizens, achieves social justice, and promotes sustainable development. It aims to restore Iran’s rightful position in the region and the world. This future is not a distant dream; rather, it is a realistic option dictated by the sacrifices and steadfast will of the Iranian people—an essential and urgent step to rescue Iran and lead the region out of its escalating misery.

Today, more than ever, the Iranian society needs profound change and a democratic alternative that reflects its aspirations and leads the transition toward freedom and human dignity. This is the only path to save Iran and create a bright future for upcoming generations.
