United Nations: Acts of violence implicate both regime-affiliated forces and the new government’s troops
الساحل السوري

A recent official United Nations report highlights the escalation of violence in Syria from January 2024 to January 2025, confirming the continued conflict and the worsening humanitarian situation in the country.

The report shows that armed clashes and deteriorating security conditions continue to destroy infrastructure, worsen civilians’ suffering, and lead to a significant increase in displacement and casualties.

It states that the recent escalation has included intensified military operations, especially in northwest and eastern regions, where clashes persist between regime forces and opposition factions. The situation in some areas controlled by armed groups has also worsened. The report confirms that humanitarian conditions are rapidly deteriorating, with severe shortages of medical and food supplies, along with rising rates of internal and external displacement.

The report points out that the direct effects of violence have led to a decline in health and service provision, with families continuing to suffer from loss of shelter and basic living essentials.

A report issued by the UN investigative committee on Syria indicates that approximately 1,400 people have been killed, most of them civilians, during incidents primarily targeting the Alawite community. Reports of violations continue to surface.
