Zelensky Calls for Regime Change in Russia and Seizure of Russian Assets
الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today, Thursday, warned the world against the continued Russian aggression, calling on the international community to take decisive action to achieve a regime change in Moscow.

During an online speech he delivered at a conference in Helsinki, Zelensky urged Western countries to seize Russian assets, emphasizing that "it is time to confiscate Russian assets." He explained that it is now time to turn frozen assets, including stolen wealth resulting from corruption, into tools to defend Ukraine and counter Russian aggression. He stated, “Confiscation, not just freezing, should be used, and these assets should serve peace, not war.”

In the context of the recent escalation, Zelensky expressed his country's solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who are experiencing intense Russian shelling, following missile and drone strikes on several cities, including Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Sumy, and Mykolaiv. These attacks have resulted in the death of six people and injured many others, causing widespread damage to infrastructure.

He noted that the attacks, carried out by over 300 drones and 8 Russian missiles, mainly target the capital, Kyiv. Rescue and fire response teams continue their work on the ground amid ongoing efforts to protect civilians. Zelensky expressed hope that the international community will force Russia to negotiate seriously for lasting peace, relying on the influence of global powers, especially the United States and Europe.

He concluded his speech by reaffirming that true peace can only be achieved through the use of force and that all necessary tools to do so are in the hands of his allies. He expressed confidence that joint international efforts will push Moscow to sit at the negotiating table.
