Damascus in Distress: The Disappearance of Two Brothers from Al-Abbasiyeen Neighborhood

Damascus has witnessed a new kidnapping incident adding to the ongoing record of violations plaguing the city. Brothers Zahir Ahmad Al Naaem and lawyer Youssef Naaem were kidnapped this morning in the Al-Abbasiyeen neighborhood. The incident occurred after they returned from work, when they stopped their car in front of their house. As they stepped out, armed unknown assailants intercepted them, forcibly dismounted them from the vehicle, and took them to an unknown location.
The car was left behind, with its doors open, reflecting a scene of chaos and security breakdown that the city is experiencing. Security forces did not intervene or attempt to locate the kidnapped individuals. The event took place at exactly 3 a.m. on July 11, 2025, leaving residents in shock over the brazen kidnapping, especially given the lack of active security measures.
This incident is part of a series of violations and assaults targeting civilians and families in Damascus and its surroundings, with no investigations or perpetrators held accountable. It highlights the deteriorating security situation and the absence of support for civilian protection in the city.
