Death of the Kingdom’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Sheikh
وفاة مفتي عام السعودية الشيخ عبدالعزيز آل الشيخ

The Saudi Royal Court announced on Tuesday the death of the Kingdom’s Grand Mufti and head of the Senior Scholars Authority, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Sheikh, according to what was reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The Court indicated that funeral prayer (Janazah) will be held for the deceased at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after Asr prayer.

Additionally, the Saudi King, Salman bin Abdulaziz, directed that the funeral prayer for the Mufti be performed through a “Ghaib” (absent) prayer in Mecca at the Grand Mosque, in the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, and in all mosques across Saudi Arabia, after Asr prayer. This serves as an occasion and a heartfelt expression of respect and appreciation from the people and religious institutions for his passing.

It is noted that Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Sheikh passed away at the age of 81. He had held the position of Grand Mufti of the Kingdom since May 1999, succeeding Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Baz. Throughout his scientific and religious career, he made significant contributions in the fields of fatwa, الدعوة (da’wah), and issuing religious verdicts.
